About the project

We're creating the Newcastle Logistics Precinct to coordinate the transportation of renewable energy equipment as part of the once-in-a-generation upgrade of NSW’s electricity system.

The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is ideal for storing energy components at the Port of Newcastle. It connects easily to the state road network and the Port to REZ route.

It will be on the government-owned Intertrade site next to the Port of Newcastle lease area. This is an opportunity to expand the capacity to accommodate the large number of renewable energy components arriving at the Port of Newcastle.

The NSW Government is investing $115.5 million to develop the Newcastle Logistics Precinct.

Latest news

EnergyCo is inviting businesses to register their interest in submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to design and build an open-air storage area at the Newcastle Logistics Precinct.

The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is a critical new hub that will significantly improve our capacity to store and efficiently transport the equipment needed to build the renewable energy projects we need to replace ageing coal-fired power stations.

We’ll be hosting an industry briefing in August 2026 to connect smaller regional construction businesses with EOI applicants, creating opportunities for local businesses to connect, collaborate and explore ways to get involved.

Read the Scoping Report

The Newcastle Logistics Scoping Report outlines plans for the Newcastle Logistics Precinct. This is now available on the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure’s Major Project’s website.

This is the project's first major planning milestone. We'll continue to engage with the community and key stakeholders as the project progresses.

We'll invite the community to provide feedback and submissions on an environmental impact statement for the project later in mid-2026.
