Priority transmission infrastructure projects
There are 2 major projects we need to deliver in addition to the renewable energy zones. Both are critical for NSW and will play important roles in the upgraded grid.
These are:
- the Waratah Super Battery Project, which will act as a shock absorber for the grid in case of events like lightning strikes and allow more energy to reach other parts of the state
- the Hunter Transmission Project, which will carry electricity from the Central-West Orana and New England renewable energy zones to the rest of the state.

The Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone is the first declared renewable energy zone in Australia.
The New England Renewable Energy Zone will be NSW's largest renewable energy zone by capacity and scale.
The South West Renewable Energy Zone encompasses the Project EnergyConnect and VNI West transmission projects.
The Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone will be the first renewable energy zone in Australia to upgrade existing distribution poles and wires.
The Illawarra Renewable Energy Zone is in its early planning stages.
The Waratah Super Battery Project will act as a 'shock absorber' for the NSW grid.
The Hunter Transmission Project is a critical project that will carry electricity from inland renewable energy zones to homes and businesses across the state.
To deliver NSW's renewable energy zones, we need to make sure other types of infrastructure like our roads and ports are also up to task.
