South West REZ moves forward with local community and business forums
Businesses and locals can learn how to maximise the opportunities of the South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) at a series of events to be held this month.
This follows the April 23 major milestone when four wind, solar and battery projects were granted the right to connect to new power lines in the REZ.
Seven community and business forums are planned around the South West REZ between 27-30 May to update residents on the recently granted access rights, and to make local suppliers aware of procurement processes and upcoming job opportunities.
EnergyCo and representatives from Bullawah Wind Farm, Dinawan Energy Hub, Pottinger Energy Park, Yanco Delta Wind Farm and Transgrid will update locals on the latest details of these projects at community information sessions.
With over $17 billion of private investment and more than 2,800 jobs expected in the South West REZ, local businesses are also invited to a Roadshow focused on connecting local industry with the project decision makers.
The Roadshow is a chance to hear directly from the developers driving some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the region, including the REZ wind farms, solar developments, battery installations, distribution lines, and temporary worker accommodation.
Quote attributable to EnergyCo Executive Director Planning and Communities Ash Albury:
“We encourage local businesses to register for the Roadshow and make the most of the vast investment coming to the region. Businesses can learn about the range of work packages and services required to deliver the South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), from enabling works to fencing, civil and structural engineering to plant and equipment supply, to construction of worker accommodation and laundry services.
“The transition to clean, reliable energy is taking shape in the South West REZ. We are excited to be working with our project partners to update local communities and businesses on the range of opportunities that the REZ will deliver."
Community information sessions
Community information sessions will be held in Hay, Coleambally and Jerilderie. Locals are encouraged to attend these events to find out more about the REZ and hear from representatives from EnergyCo, Transgrid and the four renewable energy projects.
Events will be held across three days.
