How we support landholders through the acquisition process
Landholders host critical energy infrastructure that will power NSW’s future. We need strong relationships with host landholders to ensure that infrastructure can operate safely and reliably.
Legislation protects landholders’ rights to use and enjoy their land, and landholders are entitled to compensation if EnergyCo acquires rights to also use their land.
We work with landholders to locate infrastructure so that it minimises the impacts on their property and livelihood, and to determine fair compensation for any required acquisition.
Our commitment to landholders
We recognise that discussions about access to land and energy infrastructure can have significant impacts on landholders. In addition to our organisation-wide engagement principles, our teams follow a set of landholder standards that guide how we work with landholders throughout the project lifecycle.
It serves as a reminder of what meaningful engagement looks like, fostering respectful day-to-day interactions that recognise the diverse perspectives of landholders and the need for tailored outcomes.
Respect first
- We act with honesty and integrity in all our dealings
- We give landholders time, space, and support to make informed decisions
- We ensure rights and concerns are acknowledged in every conversation and decision
- We work to create trust that we have landholders’ interests at heart
- We place value on each other’s commitment, time and contribution to achieve a collective outcome
- We always act and communicate with courtesy and respect
Empathy throughout
- We consider how the landholder feels in each interaction
- We listen to understand, reflect and then inform our actions
- We approach every interaction with kindness and care
- We understand and appreciate that the landholder may not agree with their land being acquired and used for transmission infrastructure
- We know the impact these conversations have on everyone involved, and so we support each other and work as a team
Always genuine
- We focus on building a relationship over a transaction
- We are transparent and consistent in our intentions and all our dealings - we respectfully and courteously explain what we can do and what we can’t do
- We are responsive and accountable – we do what we say we will do
- We adapt how we engage to meet our landholders’ circumstances
- Internally we are approachable and honest with one another, we back ourselves and each other
